Adding a website

Open “Websites”, enter the address under “Website address” and choose “Add website”. Enter the address as it appears in the browser – with or without www. It is the basis for verification and for every scan.

How many websites you can add depends on the plan: 1 in the Free plan, 1 in Starter, 5 in Business and 25 in Agency.

Each website has four tabs: “Overview” with the latest result and the statement, “Testing” with schedule and login areas, “Embedding” for embedding and the WordPress plugin, and “Settings” for verification and the responsible body.

Why the domain has to be verified

A scan loads dozens of pages from a server. Without proof that the domain is yours, anyone could have arbitrary websites scanned deeply and repeatedly – or publish a statement on someone else’s behalf. That is why these require a verified domain:

  • scheduled scans, login areas and click paths,
  • publishing a statement.

Verifying the domain

Open the website’s “Settings” tab, section “Verify domain”, and choose “Show instructions”. One method is enough – use the one you have access to. The page shows the exact value to enter.

Method What you do Good when …
DNS record Create a TXT record under the name shown, then “Check DNS record” you have access to DNS management; the record survives every redesign
Meta element Add the <meta name="a11y-site-verification" …> shown to the <head> of your home page, then “Check meta element” your CMS lets you add code to the head
File Place a file at /.well-known/a11y-site-verification.txt with the content shown, then “Check file” you can upload files but not change the head
WordPress plugin “Verify domain now” in the plugin your website runs on WordPress – the plugin serves the proof itself

A DNS record can take a while to become visible everywhere. If the check fails right after creating it, try again later.

Plugin instructions: Setting up and connecting the WordPress plugin.

Verification does not stay by itself

The service re-checks every verification daily. If it can no longer find the proof – after a move, a redesign or because the plugin was deactivated – the verification is reset. Scheduled scans and delivery of the statement then pause until you verify the domain again. So leave the proof in place permanently.

Removing a website

In the “Settings” tab under “Remove website”. Reports and published statements stay stored but are no longer reachable in your account; your slot in the plan becomes free again.
